Probably a stupid question but why do LeMans racecars have amber colored headlights instead of white?

The different colors of headlights are to identify the classes

I think its brighter…just a guess

My dad once said that he preferred our street lights as amber because they didn’t reflect on fog but white light does (he may be wrong I’ve never checked)

it is for identify the class, they just said it in the steam

Function-wise, I think it’s the same as why headlamps produce yellow(selective yellow) light. It’s less dangerous because (I think) white light produces more glare, and white light performs badly when raining/fogging(blue wavelength).
