Really curious why people hate on Subaru so much. You just need a long extension for this. Easy! Just changed alternator belt in 30 minutes on my WRX... Easy cars.

Its only when the car came straigh off the road because the oil and exhaust are hot. Even if you have a extension, the oil flows down your tool onto your hand and then you also got a oil covered tool. (Which sucks when you are trying to loosen the oil filter) but thats why you keep your tools clean.

I guess. All oil changes should be done with the hot engine, as hot as possible. Viscosity… Oil drains faster when hot, you get more dirty oil out.

With that said, I hate Ford Explorer for exhaust design and actually enjoy Subaru Legacy. No one tightens the heck out of the Leggy oil filters.

I love subarus but this was kind of a poor design. The ones on the 2nd generation were way better. But I do agree that they are incredibly easy to work on,

Yes! Spark plugs & clutch, I guess, are the difficult parts. I did sparkys on my old 2.5RS, no problem…

Spark Plugs are nothing with the Right Extensions for your Wrench/Torque Wrench imho. It’s harder to find the right extensions than changing the spark plugs :D

That oil smell. I did the right hand valve cover gasket because oil was dripping on the exhaust. Two months later after I did the job the car finally stop smelling like oil every time I stopped.

I once made the mistake of going to Mr.Lube to get an oil change…… They couldn’t find the filter.

Subarus are easy to work on, if you know how to work on them. They’re a little different than any other car on the road, so it shows in the design tradeoffs they have to make… I remember opening the hood of my first Subaru when I was 12 and feeling utterly overwhelmed: I didn’t even recognize any of the engine parts, really…
