Turns out the Mustang does have a cover for the exposed portion when the top is down. It's a piece of plastic you'll find in the trunk.

Don’t know how I feel about this, especially considering it’s a $40k car.

i dont understand why people complain why there is some plastic pieces on a decently expensive car. id rather have the plastic piece that i would never use be plastic and the car be 40K instead of the piece be leather and still never use and and it be like an extra 1k.

I don’t think he’s talking about the fact that it’s plastic; from what I gathered he just doesn’t understand why a 40K car can’t have a roof design so that you don’t have to manually go an get a piece of plastic out of the boot to cover it up. And I agree with him, I think it’s a very poor design if you have to do that.

I would hate it compeltely if I have to get down of the car every single time to cover that portion..then get out put it bank in trunk and then close the top… it might feel its not a big deal…but doing it repeatedly will piss you off…
