The ultimate Live For Speed guide part 1: How to download the game and get used to it.

Live for Speed (LFS) is a racing simulator. The main focus is to provide a realistic racing experience for the online multiplayer game and to allow single player races against AI cars. Users can set personal bests which can then be uploaded to LFSWorld in hotlap mode, and take driving lessons in ‘training’ mode. (Source: Wikipedia)

After my previous articles about LFS, many people asked me about it. How to download it, if you have to pay for it and more.
That’s why I decided to create a LFS guide. In this part I’m going to start with the basics. How to download the game and do some basic modifications to your car (setup and skins).

Downloading the game.

You can download the game from https://www.lfs.net/
So, in order to play the full game you have to buy it. BUT this guide is for LFS Demo. Yes! You can download it for free! Don’t worry, the demo might be limited to only 3 cars and 1 track but you can play online with other users and there are many active people! The community is great even in the demo version! Click ‘’free game download’’ and install it. If you want to play online you have to create an account first!

Joining an online server.

After you’ve downloaded the game, open it and set up the controls, your driver’s name, your language etc. When you finish setting up the game you will see the home screen (shown in the image ^^). If you want to play online click Multiplayer>Display list of hosts (you will need to log in with the account you made earlier) and just pick a server you want to join. I recommend Tofu Race Drift Server if you like drifting. That’s it!

Learning the basics

There are a few things you need to learn if it’s your first time playing.
First of all, when you join a server you have to press:
Shift + J in order to join the race.
Shift + P in order to go to pits.
Shift + S to spectate.
Or you can press ESC and then click on them.
Press 4 to see the racing line. When you get used to the track you will find your own racing line.
Press 3 to open your headlights.
Press F9 to see your tires’ temperature.
There are many more buttons but you will find them while playing.

Finding a good setup.

Finding a good setup is everything in this game. You can create your own setup but you have to test it many times in order to make it perfect. I suggest you to download a premade setup first and when you feel ready you can create your own.
You can download setups here: http://setupgrid.net/
If you want to drift, the car you are going to use is the XRG so download a setup for it. There are hotlap sets, endurance, grip, drift, drag and more. Make sure that you download a setup for the Blackwood track (BL1 GP).

After you’ve downloaded your setup, locate your LFS folder, click LFS>Data>Setups and drag your setup file there. Then enter the game and join a server. Go to pits (Shift+P) and you will see your setup on the right side of the screen. Click on it and you’re ready! Join the race (Shift+J) and practice!

Finding a good looking skin for your car.

Performance is good but stickers are life! And they add 500hp.

If you want to download a skin you can simply find one on google. BE CAREFUL! Some skins don’t work online and you have to download a skin for the car you are using. If you are using the XRG don’t download a skin for the XRT.

The name also has to start with XRG . BE CAREFUL AGAIN xD. Every legit skin starts with XRG , or FBM , or XFG IF THE NAME DOESN’T START WITH XRG_ THE SKIN WON’T WORK! By the way, you can’t just add a name you like and use it. Every skin has it’s own name.
Here are some skins for the XRG and their names:

XRG_kornas180

XRG_TH_Redbull

XRG_PR4takumi

In order to use the skin you’ll have to locate your LFS folder again, click LFS>Data>Skins and drag your skin file to the skins folder. WARNING! There are 4 different skins folders. Skins, skins_dds, skins_x and skins_y. Drag your file to the ‘’skins’’ folder not the other ones.

After putting your skin to the folder open the game, join a server and go to pits (Shift + P). On the left side of your screen you will see some skin names. If you don’t see the name of the skin you’ve downloaded, click ‘’New colours’’. You will find it there. Then click on it and you’re ready to join the race (SHIFT + J).
If the skin doesn’t work the game will automatically send you back to the pits. That means that you did something wrong with the name or that the skin is fake. Download another one and make sure that it’s name starts with XRG_ … if you are using the XRG.

Part 2 coming soon: How to mod your car and turn it into a drift missile!

That was it for this part! I really hope you found it helpful! Cya!

Nice little guide. I hope it brings more people in LFS as it’s pure awesomeness. What servers you play? I’m mostly cruising/ drifting around at TC, and when it comes to racing at CR or at any other “GT3” car racing server.

Don’t worry, as long as your pc isn’t
older than 2002 you should be fine!

Demo is for free, it’s enough to start getting hang of the game, it’s actually not the “ yank handbrake and turn “ type of drifting
