Unwanted Attention: What Types of Cars Attract Police? 🚔
Most of us have been in a car pulled over by the police at at least one point in our lives. It’s obviously not the most joyful experience in the world, and the car you’re driving has a definite affect on how much police attention you attract. That being said, which cars are the worst? Having owned a large variety of different types of cars from different eras, here are my experiences:
The Japanese Sports Car
This was my most recent car, and it attracted some serious police attention for being such a modest looking car (to my eye). It was almost completely factory, but it still prompted some friendly neighborhood officers to turn around to follow me for a mile or two on more than one occasion. The car wasn’t excessively fast in a straight line, and that’s probably what saved me from tickets.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 3/5 🚔🚔🚔
The Euro Hot Hatch
This one was surprisingly under-the-radar. Not once did I get hassled or followed by cops. My best guess was that either cops didn’t know what it was, or the silver color helped it blend in. Either way, this was probably one of my best overall turbo sleeper cars.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 1/5 🚔
The Old School Muscle
Although it may not seem like it, this is the best car I’ve ever owned for avoiding police “attention”. Even though it’s loud, fast, and red, I’ve never even been close to a ticket in it. It would be inaccurate to say cops don’t look at the car, but the end result is that I basically get a free pass since it’s a classic. I once drove past a cop with open headers, no hood, and no installed seat belts. They didn’t look twice.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 1/5 🚔
The Modern Muscle
I owned my Mustang longer than I’ve owned any other car, and it still holds the record for the most tickets I’ve ever received in any single car. I got pulled over for everything from speeding to dead headlights (and everything in between). This car was a complete cop magnet, and I was hassled to no end. I loved the car, but you couldn’t get away with anything.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 5/5 🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔
The Bike
While this one isn’t specifically a car, it’s still worth including. The color alone was enough to catch some sideways glances from johnny law, but I never actually received a ticket on it. That being said, riding it is just asking for a traffic fine.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 2/5 🚔🚔

where I live the civic is the favourite cops prey, when I had one i was pulled-over a couple times and once for speeding (10over) and there was a buick going faster passing me, but he arrested ME, the officer said “ill check your exhaust, start your car”…the engine was actually running :P cops just are scams with civics here, ask any civic owner
I’ve owned an 02 Wrangler (2 years), 07 Tiburon (1 year), and 67 Cougar (9 months). The Cougar is the only car I’ve been pulled over in. Got me a ticket, too.
I can block of an entire road and police won’t say anything
The #1 car cops tend to look for=A modified looking STI or EVO. If It got a big WANG, the cop will want some
Never been pulled over. But, I did see two Subaru Legacy B4’s get pulled over in one day…
Ugh! I used to have a red cobalt, I got pulled over almost once a month and I didn’t even mod it lol.
IMO the last one is untrue. I’ve gotten plenty of unwanted police attention on my bike and I don’t even have a fast bike by any means. Been pulled over 4 times (luckily they were all warnings) and the local bikes have it even worse. Not saying any of us keep the bike strictly on both wheels at all times but the amount of attention we get is ungodly. There’s ricers and rustbuckets running no headlights and missing entire bumpers but they don’t get pulled over. I use a hand signal and turn signal to change lanes, instantly pulled over. Perhaps it’s just my area. Lol I’m probably the only bike they can catch though tbh.
Around where i live and experience:
Every day cars:
Volvo 340: 4/5 (Because it looked like crap the interest wast mainly on paperworks)
Volvo 360: 2/5 (Looked better than above, but still outdated)
Toyota Celica (ca 9 years ago and somewhat ricey. Felt safest car in a world as i always had police escort): 5/5
Audi 80q: 1/5 (as long as they didn’t see you going sideways and even then you got away with a warning)
Opel Omega A: 3/5 (Because it looked like crap the interest wast mainly on paperworks)
Saab 900 2.3 n/a: 2/5 (Felt like undetectable car as long as you didn’t go full throttle. Ticketing was purely based on the current mood of police officer)
Chrysler Voyager: 1/5 (It’s a soccer-mum’s car)
Audi A4 B6q (grey): 0/5 (blends in so well cops don’t even notice it going sideways on snow)
Other:
Honda CRX: 3/5 They notice with quick licence plate check
BMW (Any): 3/5 They notice with quick licence plate check
Mazda 323f (Both BA and BG): 2/5
Jeep Grand Cherokee (Modified for Off-road: lift + 33” mud): 2/5 They notice but don’t touch
Sidenote: as i am active in helping out fellow citizens during extreme road conditions (flood, snow etc) and participate in 4x4 rescue missions, i have gathered some reputation among traffic enforcement aswell. They are aware of my cars (except maybe the A4) and that i race my CRXs on track, so those ratings can get .5 … 1 score higher in this list from Audi80q and down. So unless i do something really stupid i feel i have been excused from some infractions. On the other hand, if i give my cars to someone else to drive, they usually get checked so i like.
I got pulled over for going 40 in a 30 mile zone at 3am (in a R8) last thing the cop told me was “ my advice to you…sell this and get something cheaper because apperantly this car is too much for you, you cant handle it and just gonna crash and die in it”… Couldn’t react for a min.
At that point you can say “ take a hike pleb I know what i am doing i make more money in a month than you do in a year”
Im very jealous of you.
