What are some good engine swaps for the 300zx?

Im not going to do an engine swap for a while, hopefully never, my plan is if the engine blows up or something major gets destroyed I will just scrap the whole engine and swap it for something different and hopefully more powerful but I have no idea what’s a good choice, I was thinking something RB or 2JZ, would even consider LS Swap, but I would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you!

I’m definitely going to recommend an RB for this. There’s going to be more info and parts commonality. A Z31 trim came with an RB engine so if you’re lucky there might be no custom fabrication

Vg30dett, yes they are a pain to work on but they have just as much hp potential as a rb or jz and they could not be more simple to swap into a z32. It isn’t worth it to swap a new engine with complicated wireing, new driveshafts, transmissions, engine mounts, etc. Not to mention that your dash will no longer show rpm, speed, or temp unless you know exactly what you are doing. The vg30dett is way underrated, it would be a waste of time and a lot of money to swap anything else.

I’d have to go with the VH family of motors. They cost less than the RB and even the smaller option - 4.1L VH41DE - has 250HP without a turbo. That’s the same power as an RB25DET (2.5L turbo). Then you can add a turbo later to get more power.
