My family had an e36 318i for about 3 years. Superb ca. Belive it of not, when we sold it, the car had 320000km on the clock, and it was still going strong. Yes, there were a few DIY problems, but the car was in very good nick :D Awesome car :D

Lies, you can actually get e46 cheaper due to drift tax on everything e36 now :/
