Would the Fiat 126p / Fiat 126 BIS be a bad first car because it is rear wheel drive? It's usually advisable to get a FWD as a first but these are compact and cool-looking and I was wondering.
You should do some research into issues with the car and weigh up whether the pros of the car outweigh the cons - i.e Would it be cheap to buy and maintain?
I’ve never bought a car as I’m not 17, but it’s logical
man the biggest problem with this car isn’t the rwd fact, because it’s really really powerless, the biggest problem is that this car rolls out also if you slam the doors
i would much rather advise to get a fiat 127 cince my dad had one and he says its fun, cheap and reliable
You shouldn’t worry about rwd on this car. It has around 20hp and it’s top speed is around 60mph so you won’t go nowhere fast. It’s fuel economy is great, it’s cheap and simple to maintain and that 2 cylinder noise is awesome. I’d say the main and only problem is the rust. Rust destroys them more than anything.
If you want something simmilar but newer look at the Fiat cinquecento or seicento. Great little cars, fwd and cheap as dirt. Cinque has a little 0.9l engine and I believe the sporting has a 1.0l. The Sei shares it’s 1.1l engine with the mk1 Punto so the parts are interchangable.
I think it would be very fun as a first car and cheap to run (depends where you live), they are very easy to work on as well
A bis was my first car 20 years ago. Learned how to drive in it and also how to fix the small problems of a car. It used to break down a lot. Later I’ve fixed everything about it and went to a 1000kms tour, came back without problems. this year, after 20 years I’ve purchased an air cooled version and have been driving it for months now with pleasure. It is a 25 y o car now and you need to sense when it needs something, if you don’t , then it may break down in the middle of nowhere. if you are not a fan of very small cars and especially 126’s, it is not so much recommended as a first car. Go for something bigger and more modern.
