Brian O’Conner Will Return In Fast X: Part 2
We’ve been in for an unusually long wait for the next installment of Fast & Furious. Since the release of Fast X in 2023, we’ve had very little to work with for official information on when its follow-up is coming – but that’s just changed.
Vin Diesel has just confirmed a whole host of new information for the eleventh film in the series, currently known as Fast X: Part 2, including the return of Brian O’Conner.
Spoiler alert: In case you’re yet to watch Fast X, or somehow any film in the series before it, prepare for a few plot points to be discussed below. Complaints? “Forget about it, cuh.”
The return of Brian O’Conner
Speaking on stage during Fuel Fest, Vin Diesel dropped a shedload of new information on the next instalment of the series. The bombshell announcement was that his character, Dom Toretto, would be reunited with Brian O’Conner.
Of course, we don’t know how that will all play out. O’Conner hasn’t been seen on screen since Fast & Furious 7, with the passing of actor Paul Walker during filming. Digital re-insertion could be an option, although Walker’s brothers Cody and Caleb were used for some stand-in shots in F7, so it’s possible either could reprise the role.
When will Fast X: Part 2 release?
Along with the O’Conner announcement, Vin Diesel confirmed that distributor Universal Studios wants the eleventh film to release in April 2027. No exact date has been pinned down yet, but that would make it just shy of four years between Fast X and its sequel.
Where will Fast X: Part 2 be set, and what will it be about?

As with most recent Fast films, we’d expect Fast X: Part 2 will be shot in multiple locations globally rather than locked to one location, but Vin Diesel has said it’ll be returning to Los Angeles in some capacity.
LA has appeared multiple times in the franchise, though it was only the original film that was set entirely within the city.
Oh, and speaking of returning to roots, Vin Diesel has also told Universal Studios to “return to car culture, to the street racing…”. How it does that after sending a Pontiac Fiero to space though, is beyond our minds.
Fast X left us on a genuine cliffhanger, too. Just to kick-start your memory, or in case you haven’t seen the film and have zero interest in watching it, we see a plane carrying Roman, Tej, Han, and Ramsey shot down by Aimes – who turns out to have been working with antagonist Dante Reyes and duping Dom Toretto’s crew in the process.
It cuts to the end credits shortly after leaving us to wonder about the fate of the crew but, if things go in a typical F&F fashion, we’ll expect them to all miraculously survive.
Which cars will be in Fast X: Part 2?
We’re starting to see a few cars that’ll appear in the next Fast instalment, and it looks as though several vehicles from previous entries will make a return.
Unsurprisingly, Dom Toretto is going to be back in a Dodge Charger. Vin Diesel has shared images of the car that appears to be the one from the fourth film outside of 'Toretto's Garage' as well as a clip of a dyno run. Volume up for that one.
We've also seen him tease the Toyota Supra from the very first film. In an Instagram post in May 2024, Vin Diesel filmed himself with Brian O’Conner’s legendary car. Though he didn't outright state the car would make an appearance, the video was seemingly shot on the Fast X: Part 2 set.
Similar posts have revealed a Chevy Chevelle used in multiple instalments, a Plymouth GTX from Dom’s brief evil spell, a truckload of black Honda Civics as seen in the original film’s truck hijacking scene… you get the idea. Lots of returnees.
There’ll be debutants in the series, though. We're also expecting to see an original NA1 Honda NSX appear in the film, with Vin Diesel having posted an on-set image of himself with Letty actress Michelle Rodriguez behind the wheel of the Japanese sports car. We think it's the first time a pre-facelift model of the NSX has appeared in the series, with an NA2 Acura NSX hitting the screen in Fast Five.
Will this be the last Fast & Furious film?
The eleventh installment of the Fast franchise was slated to be the last, and Vin Diesel has repeatedly referred to it as the ‘finale’ – as recently as June 2025. However, it sounds like it could be the second of a trilogy to end the series.
Speaking in June 2023 with Variety, Vin Diesel said: “Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter, and after the studio saw this one, they said, ‘Could you make Fast X the finale, a trilogy?”
We do know a short-form film will be coming as a 'precursor to the finale', though which side of Fast X: Part 2 that falls on remains to be seen.
No matter if the eleventh Fast & Furious signals the end of the main franchise or not, we can expect the name to carry on. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes has been confirmed to be in the works, focusing on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Momoa, while an untitled female-led spin-off is rumoured to be on the cards.
