Long story short, I was drifting in this car in the snow, and hit a patch of dry ground which launched me the opposite direction because countersteer, and I ended up going through a snow bank and flattening a sign, no damage to my car though
We just had freezing rain last night here in the Northeast. It’s not over yet.
Survived winter (so far) in my MK1 MX5 that I recently discovered had a welded diff (LSD now)
It gets around freezing temperature at night occasionally and there was a tornado. Scary driving rarely occurs during a southern winter. Unless there are 2 inches of snow.
I drove around town with my 1991 Volvo 740. When I arrived at the roundabout I drifted around it, and there was no other cars around, then I noticed that a police car drove behind me. It was right after I drifted, so I saw that the police drove the roundabout and they started drifting too. So we stopped at the same parking and they walked over to me and started laughing and asked if I was okay. Norwegian police can be nice to young drivers!
Where did this happen. Sure as hell dont sound like the norwegian police.
i did the exact same thing. I got a ticket though.
This is from a couple of winters ago: I was heading to school a cold december day in my old Nissan Patrol Y60 when I was behind some sensible person driving safely, which incidentally, I didn’t have time for, so I shifted down (which, in hindsight, was a very stupid mistake), gave it some throttle and pulled out to overtake him…. That didn’t end well for me, because I hit some snow in the median of the road, which took away all traction on my rear wheels, my car decided it was about to hit the car I was overtaking, I countersteered and hit the dry tarmac and launched myself directly into a concrete pillar with a mailbox on it. At first sight it looked like I only bent the front bumper, but at further inspection (a couple of weeks later) I discovered that I had taken out the radiator as well, and ended up ruining the engine. So there goes, don’t expect to be the king of the icy roads in a 4x4 if you drive like a hooligan (and not having the 4x4 engaged, lol)
Y60 Patrols are kickass awesome
We got 12-18 inches of snow, so I thought since it was mostly packed down on the road I could go for a drive. I got about a mile (downhill and we had plowed it) then I got to the bottom of the hill and decided this was a bad idea, so I tuned around. I than figured out the hill was very icy (only at the bottom lol) so I decided I had to keep going out to the main road. I made it about 30ft. At this time I was still going ok, but my presilencer was dragging in the snow, so I thought that I would move more to one side to keep it out of the snow. This turned out to be a bad idea as the front left tire was then in the soft snow in the middle of the road, causing the car to slide sideways. So now the back right tire was in the deep snow and was just diffing out #opendifflife Luckily my dad was just 10 mins. away with the tractor so he came to pull me out. Sorry for the long story, hope you enjoyed it.

Story time with uncle Miro
It was a fine wintery night in Finland. Me and my friend headed for the back roads near my home town with my friends MB W202 C180. We both knew what will result with him behind the wheel of a RWD car on icey back roads. Sliding.
Our night began well with nice slides provided by the excellent turning angle of the Merc. There was no hesitation in the firm steering of my fine pal. He started getting more confident with the entries since the entry was the only difficult part. Finding the right balance of flicking the car without ending up in a horrible under steery accident. The lack of an e-brake did not help me and my friend on our flicky and slidy adventure.
After a good half an hour of hooning we came to a nice 90 degree turn and my friend came in with speed and a hunch of clutch kick. The slide began well with the back end kicking out surprisingly well due to the clutch kick. My comrade slid nicely to the half point of the corner when things started to go wrong. The front tires got caught in a little bit of a slope in the inside of the bend. This resulted in the front end loosing control and us sliding to a ditch.
After the dust had settled we climbed out of our beautiful snow sledge that the Merc was we were horrified by the sight. The passenger side had plowed a respectable amount of snow and little bushes while we were sliding in the ditch. We were quite certain the passenger side paintjob had been damaged severely. But no. After we got the car up with the help of a friend and a tractor we found a happy surprise. Absolutely no damage was caused to the car except a bend plastic bit in the front bumper. All was well.
