Torque isn’t produced at the piston.
The explosion in the combustion chamber produced a longitudinal force, that is in engineering terms even measured in pressure. Torque is produced by the conrod turning the crank, therefore, the system can not produce torque of any sorts without the crank

I’m sorry but this is just plain wrong. Torque is not produced in the pistons. Torque is a moment; a rotational force. The pistons move linearly - it’s the crankshaft that converts this linear force into a torque.
