12 Motorsport Series You Need To Follow In 2015

1. Formula 1

Mercedes hasn’t had it all its own way during the first four races of the 2015 season, with Ferrari bouncing back from a tough 2014 to fight at the front.

Lewis Hamilton is attempting to defend his world title, Nico Rosberg is hungrier than ever to succeed, Ferrari looks strong, the midfield is incredibly close and we have the return of the McLaren Honda partnership too. With 15 races remaining, it is shaping up to be another exciting season.

2. MotoGP

Three rounds down and we have already been treated to a fascinating start to 2015. Marc Marquez looks strong but has yet to show the dominance of last season, while Valentino Rossi is racing better than ever and Ducati looks much more competitive. Stay tuned as it looks to be a great year for the series.

3. FIA WEC

The 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship started with a bang recently at Silverstone, with a stunning battle for the lead between Audi and Porsche. Nissan will join the LMP1 party at the iconic, stand-out Le Mans 24 Hours this summer and the LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am categories look extremely competitive.

4. IndyCar

The big IndyCar story in 2015 is the addition of new aero kits designed by Honda and Chevrolet, meaning the grid is not made up of identical cars for the first time in almost a decade. It looks to have brought a fresh element to the racing and made the cars considerably faster.

There has been plenty of movement up and down the grid. Will Power looks to defend his title, while Juan Pablo Montoya, James Hinchcliffe and Scott Dixon took the victories in the opening three rounds. The field looks closely matched and we have already seen plenty of drama.

5. Nascar Sprint Cup

With a packed and high-quality field for 2015 and a huge 36-round calendar, the latest Nascar Sprint Cup season looks set to be a good one. Eight of them – including the Daytona 500 – have already taken place, with six different winners. Nascar always throws up excitement and it will certainly be no different this year.

6. GP2

The GP2 grid for the 2015 season is the best it has been in years. The F1 feeder series has the addition of DRS for this year, which should produce even more overtaking. It may not be a top championship but the racing is always exciting, and the field is packed with young drivers from F1 teams. Stoffel Vandoorne is the hot favourite, after a stand-out rookie season in 2014.

7. Formula Drift

The 2015 season recently kicked off in Long Beach, USA, with last year’s runner-up Fredric Aasbø taking victory at the wheel of his Scion tC. A sell-out crowd of 20,000 fans viewed the action, proving Formula Drift remains hugely popular in its 12th year. Six events remain; including the first ever Formula Drift visit to Orlando.

8. FIA World Rallycross

Petter Solberg became the first ever FIA World Rallycross champion last year after winning five events. The new season will consist of 13 rounds and kicks off on the 24 April in Portugal. A wide range of car manufacturers will compete, with a grid full of well-known names.

9. BTCC

Arguably the best touring car series right now, the British Touring Car Championship always produces drama and spectacular, wheel-to-wheel (and often door-to-door) racing. After two rounds and six races, Matt Neal currently leads the championship, although the field looks as close and competitive as ever. Also, watch out for the CT-sponsored Team HARD Toyota Avensis of Kieran Gallagher!

10. Formula E

The inaugural 2014/2015 Formula E season is already six races old, but it has been a dramatic and – surprisingly – exciting start to the all-electric championship. There may be plenty of room for improvement, but the final five races should be electrifying (sorry).

11. WRC

Rallying is one of the best spectacles in motorsport. Drivers mastering tough, tricky and incredibly quick stages on a range of road surfaces are always incredible to watch. The 2015 season is well underway, with Sebastien Ogier winning the first three events.

12. Stadium Super Trucks

What’s not to love about huge, V8-powered trucks racing around tracks and tackling huge jumps? The Speed Energy Formula Off-Road series (more commonly known by its former name Stadium Super Trucks) has already raced three times in 2015, supporting the V8 Supercars and IndyCar. It is certainly a championship not to be missed.
