This 2000 Mile Ferrari F40 Is Set To Fetch Nearly £1 Million At Auction
The want is seriously strong right now. What you’re looking at is a barely-used Ferrari F40, due to be auctioned on 2 September at Salon Privé with a hefty estimate of £875,000 - £975,000.
How barely used are we talking? Well, the full mileage isn’t listed, by Silverstone Auctions does state that the car covered “less than a verified 3000km before the restoration and just 592km since,” which means it can’t have covered much more than 2000 miles.
That restoration - by the way - was done by renowned, Maranello-based Ferrari restorers Carrozzeria Zanasi in 2016, and cost a cool €300,000. After the restoration, the car was granted a ‘Classiche’ certification by Ferrari itself.
As for the mileage, while it is attention grabbing, it’s - sadly - fairly common for an F40. RM Sotheby’s auctioned off a 3500 mile F40 last year for £924,000, and the same firm is offering a 1991 F40 with just 2800 miles on the clock, set to go under the hammer at Monterey in a few day’s time with an estimate of $1.3 - 1.5 million (£1 million - 1.15 million).
The Salon Privé car is arguably the purer of the two - as a pre-1990 F40 it doesn’t have a catalytic converter, and it’s also one of only 50 to have sliding plexiglass windows as opposed to conventional wind-up units (because weight reduction bro, etc). Finally, it doesn’t have the adjustable suspension option fitted to some F40s - this adds practicality, but also complexity that could lead be a problem further down the road.
It’s a fine example in other words, and one that deserves to have way more than 2000 miles on the clock. Let’s hope the next owner actually uses it…

lotto if there is one time you will let me win it better be now
That is how I’m feeling right now lol
In fact that’s how I feel constantly, I know it’s been sold now but any car will do
Considering the absolute grotesque maintenance costs this car has even for a wealthy individual (while also factoring in their value, heritage etc) it’s no wonder these cars don’t get driven much…
Except for that one guy in Japan that takes it camping and sliding around snowy mountain roads. That guy keeps all of his f#cks to himself. None given!
