A 210bhp Toyota Yaris Hot Hatch Is Officially Happening

Just before Christmas, Toyota announced it was cooking up something special for 2017: a spicy version of the Yaris. And now we know a little more.

We really mean a little. But of the smattering of details revealed this week, one piece of info is particularly significant: Toyota is saying its new hot hatch will kick out 210bhp. That’s more than the VW Polo GTI and Vauxhall Corsa VXR, a little lower than the Clio RS220 and more than the Ford Fiesta ST. Well, before the Fiesta’s overboost kicks in. Yo.

A 210bhp Toyota Yaris Hot Hatch Is Officially Happening

210bhp in a little Yaris - which according to Toyota will be infused with know-how from its WRC effort - should make for a potent car. We won’t have to wait long to see it either, with the go-faster Yaris receiving its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

At the same time, the whole Yaris range will be updated, with new styling, a nicer interior and a “raft of technical modifications” to give better ride and handling.

We need a TRD 86 NOW! Akio, dude, I respect you and Toyota, but dude, come on, at least 250hp? Supercharge it to 276hp and set it off against the 370z

I have a feeling that they will ruin this car by making it CVT-only
In which case I hope it doesn’t come to Europe as well

Honestly, if it were a metallic white without the graphics, it would be a sharp little thing
