230bhp Should Make The New Mini JCW An Absolute Belter
Sources claim that the next John Cooper Works Mini will pack 230bhp and 258lb ft from an updated version of the Cooper S' 2.0-litre engine
The next John Cooper Works version of the Mini hatch looks set to be a belter, as Autocar reports that sources close to BMW have said it’ll pack around 230bhp and a substantial 258lb ft of torque. That’s a healthy 16bhp and 52lb ft increase over the outgoing JCW’s 1.6-litre unit, which will be dropped in favour of an uprated version of the 2.0-litre turbo four-pot seen in the Mini Cooper S.
230bhp will make the JCW a bit of a scorcher, and despite being front-wheel drive, it’ll be the closest thing the Audi S1 has as a rival.
We’ve already seen the near-production-ready JCW concept, which was unveiled ahead of the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, and the proper production version is expected to be revealed at the same show next year.
