Reason 1: You are automatically assumed to not be a car guy
A widespread belief in the car community is that the only good mustangs have v8’s, which is true. However, as a result of this belief, the v6 then has gained the reputation of a typical flashy car that non car people buy to impress people. Most car people assume that since you didn’t opt for a v8 that performance doesn’t matter to you, and hence comes the assumption that you are a sub human.
Reason 2: Ricers
The v6 Mustang is a popular domestic car that ends up neck deep in rice. GT and 5.0 badges, huge wings, boss 302 stickers, and other unnecessary visual mods really ruin it. V6 mustang ricers are just like the ricers that rice honda’s. They set bad reputations for decent cars, and enforce a terrible stereotype.
Reason 3: Non-car guy D-bags
This reputation is very detrimental to car guys that own v6’s. The D-bags that drive v6’s follow the non car guy stereotype, but they make it worse. They act like the v6 is the best car in the world, and shove it into people’s faces.

Reason 4: Modified v6 Mustangs are frowned upon
The meme says it all. When you start modifying a v6, some car guys instantly assume that you are a “v8 wanna be”. So no matter how you modify a v6 in terms of performance, some car guys will frown upon it.

#3 is my motivation to make my truck a sleeper. I want to crap all over their idea of performance.
My dad hast still a Inline-6 engine at home! Wat? I-6? Yeah a 250CU.IN/4.1L straight six from a 1969 Mustang. I plan to build a Mustang one day with that engine. The crazy Aussies love these engines and that’ts why they have loads of parts. They tune these engines up to 700hp for the drag strip for example. Sometimes they also use Fords 5L szraight-six. That would be impressive as well. Pure understatement. I mean, when you say it’s a 6-cyl and don’t say it has about 500hp, they tbink you’re a non-car-guy.
I saw a supercharged V6 Mustang at an auto show earlier this year. It was nice, but kind of a waste, because not V8.
You may have missed the point of the article… Plus, that supercharged v6 is faster than any of your cars ;).
I have a 2005 “V6” but after a year of daily driving and constantly being mocked I did something about it. I tore that 4.0 iron block auto out and installed a 4.6L 3v V8 with a Tremec Tr-3650 manual but left the exterior mostly stock. I put long tube headers with a catless midpipe in and no one expects that kind of demonic straight pipe v8 out of a “V6” For more info on it check my garage.
I’m just curious here, but how much did the swap cost? Did it cost more or less than trading up to a GT?
Some person need to understand its not everyone who can buy a V8 its 10k more, cost more in assurance, cost more in gaz … I buy a V6 and love it and the reason why we change the exhaust system its for us not the other one we like V8 sound but like i said we got priority. Yep. I know that feel, I own an 89 RS with the slog 2.8 v6. It’s so slow. I would’ve much rather picked up a V8, but the options for the third gen camaros weren’t the best: 2.8 V6 manual or automatic, 5.0 manual or automatic, 5.7 automatic only. I didn’t want one of those 305’s(myriad of problems) and the 350 didn’t come with a manual and got garbage for mpg. So I went with the mpg friendly, slow 2.8. So now I’m looking for a 97 z28 or T/A, not going to buy another V6 option, made the mistake once already.
(This is like two years ago, not when they were actually in production haha)

I’m speaking in terms of all v6 mustangs, not just my 2016.
