4 Reasons Why Owning a v6 Mustang and Being a Car Guy Sucks

Ah, the v6 Mustang (AKA the rental car). While I absolutely love my car, there are some glaring downsides to owning a v6 mustang and being a car guy. Here are 4 reasons why!

Reason 1: You are automatically assumed to not be a car guy

A widespread belief in the car community is that the only good mustangs have v8’s, which is true. However, as a result of this belief, the v6 then has gained the reputation of a typical flashy car that non car people buy to impress people. Most car people assume that since you didn’t opt for a v8 that performance doesn’t matter to you, and hence comes the assumption that you are a sub human.

Reason 2: Ricers

The v6 Mustang is a popular domestic car that ends up neck deep in rice. GT and 5.0 badges, huge wings, boss 302 stickers, and other unnecessary visual mods really ruin it. V6 mustang ricers are just like the ricers that rice honda’s. They set bad reputations for decent cars, and enforce a terrible stereotype.

Reason 3: Non-car guy D-bags

This reputation is very detrimental to car guys that own v6’s. The D-bags that drive v6’s follow the non car guy stereotype, but they make it worse. They act like the v6 is the best car in the world, and shove it into people’s faces.

Reason 4: Modified v6 Mustangs are frowned upon

4 Reasons Why Owning a v6 Mustang and Being a Car Guy Sucks

The meme says it all. When you start modifying a v6, some car guys instantly assume that you are a “v8 wanna be”. So no matter how you modify a v6 in terms of performance, some car guys will frown upon it.

My brother had a new-edge V6 manual… I am pretty sure part of the reason he sold it was the V8 d-bag supremacists. Shame too, it was in very good shape. I miss that car and its couch-like seats and grumbley pushrod engine.

I want to compensate with all you that have a V6 mustang but unfortunately the mustang we once owned was a 1989 Ford Mustang LX with a 5.0L V8 and yes there were problems with it the exhaust kept on breaking, it drank a lot of gas, it was automatic and as a baby they couldn’t fit it until I didn’t need the booster seat we had to sell it in 1999 because repairs

I agree with all of this. Wish my 99 was a GT, but still love the V6.

Great article

Yeahh.. I’ve pretty much been hit with all of them, especially #5.
I have a 2009 v6 mustang and we all know that the 05-10 v6 mustangs had pretty poor numbers in the v6 category (even though they did go up from the previous model).
I’ve converted it to dual exhaust and thrown some pype bombs (glass packs/cherry bombs) on it and dayum, it has that nice growl of an idle , but the higher RPM’s scream, it’s like having two different engines. Not sure why but I actually like it. Below 3k RPM, it’s low and menacing, after 3k when it opens it up just screams at you.
If it was stock yeah, it’d be pretty boring, but everyone has a modified v8 mustang.
It’s not a v8, yeah it isn’t. It’s not like the 50 others at the car meet/show there, instead if i’m working on making a v6 mustang fast from an engine that wasn’t very fast to begin with. That’s what i’m looking forward too.
I’m that kind of crazy that wants to make a v6 mustang faster than the GT.
