This company here got a couple million dollar of funding by the american military. I woudn’t say the rotary is dead, maybe in cars. Their smallest engine produces 5Hp while weighing about 4lbs. Their diesel rotary engine is also a lot smaller at the same power level than a conventional diesel engine, while being not that much less efficient.

Too much friction between the rotor and the housing

So what about the RX-8 Hydrogen prototype ? Hydrogen is the future of motoring, so no one will care then, no ?
I was also surprised to find (though it is wikipedia) that the first hydrogen internal combustion engine was built in 1807… Mazda got the concept into a car in 1991, BMW in 2002 and Ford in 2006. Why are we not running on H2 ? “I got off topic here a bit…”

I know I am going to sound “tinfoil-hatty” but I would guess because of the giant oil lobbies.

Hydrogen has a few drawbacks - refueling is more difficult and it’s not easy to store (H2 molecules are very small, so they diffuse through almost every material). Also, producing it requires quite a lot of energy.
Of course some of these problems can and will be solved, but i’m not sure if hydrogen will be a big thing in the future.

It takes more energy to produce Hidrogen than burning it. That’s the main reason.

Hydrogen are way too dangerous, there was a reason why airships stop using hydrogen. If you crash a car like this, and any type of spark, this thing will explode out of control, killing everyone in the process. Hydrogen cars is one of the most stupid things made if you think about. For the moment, the future of the car is eletricity, whatever you want it or not.

i would say ethanol , methanol and nitromethane , theyr easy to produce and the farming industry would have a boom
