I don’t know if it’s really dead… I mean a lot of people still love that engine, pros use it to run Formula D and all, and Mazda is supposed to bring out a new type of rotary engine for the concept of the RX-Vision and they have named the new rotary the Skyactive-R. So I think we haven’t heard the end of this BRAAAAAAAAA~

The rotary was never given the chance to be evolved through the generations as much as the piston engine did. Let’s hope Mazda has been successful with its Rx Vision

What I also heard some time ago:
Rotary engines are very sensitive and not so forgiving as Diesel or normal petrol engines when it comes to driving when the engine didn’t warm up enough
And well I’ve never seen a RX8 with more than 100k km on it

Quick question regarding burning oil. I have a 2004 rx8 and I did the SOHN adapter that allows me to run an external oil tank. I run TCW-3 2 stoke oil in as do a lot of other people that run the adapter. I was just wondering what your take on this is over the original design.

While the video certainly covers characteristics of a rotary engine, I don’t think it really covers why production of the engine-type (almost) stopped.

As for the relative inefficiency, while it’s true that you’re probably going to average under 20mpg with general driving, what the video doesn’t mention is that it will maintain similar numbers under WOT. Your Corvette and GLA will soon drop into single figures while your rotary will stay roughly the same. The benefit of this is that it allows you to drive like a moron everywhere and that’s certainly part of the appeal of owning a high-revving sports car. Girls will be more impressed and more men will wish they were you.

That’s what I love about my rx8 until I had an apex seal get stuck cuz of carbon build up. Which I blame on the previous owner for running synthetic oil.

What was that? Mazda’s already (hopefully) bringing it back…

fair enough…. I own an RX8 and always thinking that it would save me a lot of money to just get rid of it, but then I sit in it turn the key and it just feel like nothing else out there and the driving characteristics are just perfect … Ask any RX8 owner and he will agree with me ….this means that when you go out there and buy rotary at first you will own a rotary but eventually rotary will own you.
