The 860 Is Another Limited-Edition Toyota GT86 With No Added Power

Toyota has revealed another special edition GT86, but before you ask, no: it doesn't have any more power...
The 860 Is Another Limited-Edition Toyota GT86 With No Added Power

Last week, Toyota promised to shake up the hot hatch world with its Yaris GRMN. With a power output of 205bhp from its supercharged 1.8-litre engine, it didn’t take people long to point out that this figure is a smidge more than the GT86. Not only that, but with Toyota claiming it’ll have class-leading acceleration figures, it’ll probably be a second or so quicker to 62mph.

A jumped up Yaris that’s quicker than a rear-wheel drive sports car from the same range. That’s a bit awkward, isn’t it? You might think this newly revealed 860 Special Edition 86 provides an answer in the form of more power, but no.

It’s another one of those special edition 86s (it’s for the USA, hence the lack of ‘GT’ in the name) that’s little more than a trim fiddling exercise. But hey, even though we clamour for more power, we all know deep down the Toyobaru isn’t about that, and it does look pretty awesome in this exclusive ‘Supernova Orange’ finish with racing stripes and a black spoiler.

It’ll also be available in Halo White, with 860 cars made in each finish. All cars get black 17-inch alloy wheels, black leather trim, heated seats, a push-button starter, dual-zone climate control and a 4.2-inch display for things like a lap timer and a G-meter.

Does this orange (or white) slice of 86 sound appealing to you? It’ll be in dealerships later this month, priced at $29,155 for the manual or $29,875 for the automatic.

Probably more likely to get a hybrid or electric gt86 before a manufacturer power boost for the combustion engine
