9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

1. Koenigsegg One:1

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

It’s perhaps a bit of a stretch to label something a ‘production car’ when only six are being made, but you can’t ignore the 1322bhp One:1’s bonkers rear wing. It’s part of an extensive aero package which gives 610kg of downforce at 160mph.

2. Toyota Celica GT-Four (ST205)

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

The final version of the GT-Four is not only the most powerful of the go-faster four-wheel drive Celicas (239bhp from its 2.0-litre turbo engine), it’s also blessed with the most massive rear wing of the lot (depending on the version). We approve.

3. Toyota Celica GT (Mk7)

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

While we’re on the subject of be-winged Celicas, check out this effort on the Mk7 version of the coupe. Unfortunately, this GT version came with no more power - a relatively limp 189bhp - but was blessed with a rather questionable bodykit. This is clearly a tactic Toyota is fond of, as evidenced by the Toyota GT86 Aero in our previous list. Still, that rear wing is an impressive thing…

4. Ferrari F40

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

With a 200mph top speed, it was particularly important for the 471bhp F40’s aero package to keep lift to a minimum. The iconic wing on the back plays a big part, and as a bonus, it looks flipping brilliant.

5. Lamborghini Veneno

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

With only three coupes and nine roadsters, the Veneno is another car that pushes the boundaries of the term ‘production car’. But just look at the wing; dramatic aero bits is what the Veneno is all about.

The hypercar features a radically different body to the Aventador on which it’s based and it features a hugely inflated price of around £3 million. Well played, Lambo…

The stunning result of motorsport homologation rules, the LTW is a very special version of the E36 M3. Over 90kg was shed for the LTW edition, through various measures including the use of aluminium door skins, the removal of luxury items, plus less under-body and under-bonnet insulation. It received stiffer suspension, and - hence its inclusion in this list - a ruddy great wing on the boot lid. Around 120 are thought to have been made.

7. McLaren P1

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

Picking a winner between the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and LaFerrari hypercars is a tricky task, but choosing which has the most impressive rear wing is easy: that prize goes to Woking’s V8 beast. It’s a clever thing, too, being able to retract entirely, or rise up to 120mm on the road and 300mm on track to give more downforce.

8. Porsche 993 911 GT2

9 Gloriously Ridiculous Production Car Wings: Part 2

The 993 Porsche 911 GT2 is a little on the mad side, so it seems fitting that it received an equally mad rear wing. As well as the usual aero benefits this unit also helped to cool the engine thanks to pair of large air scoops, one on each side.

9. Toyota Supra (MkIV)

Last but by no means least is the Toyota Supra in Mk4 form. At its most powerful, the final iteration of the Supra packed a 326bhp 2JZ straight-six.

Thanks to all those who made these suggestions in Part I!
