Here it is, the £1.64 million Lamborghini Centenario, Lamborghini’s attempt to steal the show at Geneva. Like the Veneno before it, the Centenario is based on the Aventador’s platform, with the ‘standard’ supercar being completely reworked. Built to celebrate 100 years since company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini was born, the team at Sant’Agata have pulled out all the stops, producing the most powerful Lamborghini production supercar of all time.

Aesthetically, the whole body has been reworked, giving the car a demonic stance; a cross between a 90s F1 car and a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. The overarching theme of the car is downforce. At the front there’s a low nose that contains gaping intakes with six vertical vanes, and at the back there’s an absolutely massive diffuser which spans almost the entire length of the car’s rear body shell.

Lamborghini claims that these wild design choices are not simply for aesthetics. In fact, the car is capable of channelling so much air through its body that it is effectively ‘permeable’. There’s also an active rear wing which is claimed to produce significant levels of downforce; it can extend up to 150mm and rotate up to 15 degrees depending on the driving mode selected.

As we predicted, the Centenario also makes use of the naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 Aventador SV motor, with power upped from 740bhp to 759bhp. Maximum revs have also risen from 8350rpm to an incredible 8600rpm. These modifications are enough to give the supercar a 0-62mph time of 2.8sec and a top speed of more than 217mph. And to bring everything to a stop, the Centenario is equipped with Lamborghini’s brilliant carbon-ceramic brakes. The supercar should be able to decelerate from 186mph to 0mph in just 290 meters - face bending stuff.

To ensure that the car has the grip to put all that power to the ground, a set of forged aluminium wheels - 20 inch diameter in the front, and 21 inches in the rear - are treated to a set of Pirelli P Zeros. The car also utilises four-wheel steering to ensure maximum agility.

No expense has been spared on the interior, with the bull receiving carbonfibre seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and an integrated telemetry software system which works in conjunction with two interior cameras; everyone wants to be able to watch their track-day highlights, don’t they? Everything else in the interior has been swathed in Alcantara, oh, and did we mention that there’s space for two helmets in the back? Perfect.

Speaking to Autocar, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman expressed his delight with the new car:

“The Centenario is a car that perfectly combines tradition and innovation. It’s an opportunity for our designers and engineers to transcend some of the constraints of series production to achieve an incomparable result.”

“The car has immediately proven itself as a desirable collectors’ car, while demonstrating new Lamborghini technologies. It is the most fitting tribute to Ferruccio Lamborghini in his centenary year.”
