Artisan GT-R Arrives As The R36 Skyline From Our Dreams
With the dying days of the R35 GT-R upon us, it’s soon surely the end of dinosaur-fuelled Godzilla. It seems, should the R36 actually come along, it’ll be making the move to a bonkers all-electric hypercar resembling very little of what came before it. What if, though, Nissan took things in a different direction and paid some serious honour to the Skylines of old?
This is where the Artisan GT-R steps in. Built on the R35, it’s as close to a true spiritual successor to the legendary R34 as it gets. With those proportions, boxy headlights and massive two-pillared rear wing, it’s easy to imagine this thing in Fast and Furious or Gran Turismo.
Of course, it keeps the basic shell of the R35 leading to its identical roofline, but every body panel that can be replaced has been with new carbon fibre parts, which should shed some heft off the donor car’s hefty kerb weight. Mind you, Artisan hasn’t confirmed a target weight figure.
Much like the exterior, the cabin has been rendered pretty much unrecognisable from what it's based on. Some serious-looking Recaro bucket seats are fitted, along with a new steering wheel, more carbon fibre trimmings and a gigantic, vertically-set screen.
As for options, Artisan has laid out a selection of colours borrowed from the GT-R’s storied history. Bayside Blue makes an appearance, of course, while fans of the ultra-rare M-Spec Nür can pay homage to it with Millenium Jade. If it was our money, we’d be straight onto Midnight Purple.
If you’d like your GT-R even more bespoke, Artisan is promising “no limits” to what it can offer customers. Expect to see at least one with a 2 Fast 2 Furious tribute livery then, though we’re crossing our fingers someone is feeling brave enough to replicate the Gran Turismo 4 Skyline Pace Car.
This isn’t just a case of looks either, with Artisan offering the GT-R in 800bhp ‘Track’ and mind-boggling 1,000bhp ‘Ultimate’ forms. Upgrades are made to the suspension, brakes and tyres, too, though specifics haven’t been detailed.
All things going to plan, expect to see the Artisan GT-R coming to life next year with SEMA 2024 serving as an opportunity for its public debut.
You’ll need some deep pockets if you want one, mind, with prices starting at £369,000. Just 36 will be made so, If you’ll excuse us, we have some ‘how to make money fast’ Google searching to do.
