This Audi Can't Escape Its Understeering Fate On The 'Ring

Trying to thread an Audi estate car around the Nordschleife was always going to be tough, especially seeing that they're known to understeer...

Audis are famed for their understeer and this clip shows the perfect example of a front-end washing helplessly wide, culminating in a trip to the gravel and a sickening collision with an armco.

Thankfully the impact was completely side-on so a quick trip to the bodyshop and a precautionery wheel-alignment should see the German wagon back in ship-shape.

Actually you should have taken a A4 or A6 Model, because the 8N TT was recalled because of drivers loosing control of oversteer, so they got the wing a some more weight on the rear to compensate that issue. Yes I understand it is a Joke but still you never cant get enough technical information :)

The RS has torque vectoring so it can remain a lot more stable, can’t say that about the Audi

Not all AUDI’s are AWD, do some research. Most of them are sold as FWD only.
When you see the badge Quattro on them (from the factory, not glued by the owner), only then they will have AWD.

It has a “drift mode”. Basically the computer does all the work and holds a slide. Without it, it would understeer.

Wait, hold on a bit.In my town, and possibly whole country, Audis, especially Quattro models, are considered very good handling cars, and now you are telling me that Audis are famed for understeering? What the…Well, one more reason to go BMW. :D

Just remember to forget about tailgating and using the turn signals, yeah?

It’s just because people don’t know how to trailbrake.

I own an ancient straight 5 Audi, and I can tell you that the understeer jokes are…completely correct.

Because people don’t know how to drive AWD cars correctly. Yes, they are prone to Understeer, however, you have to be going quite fast and not driving it properly for that to happen. A good example of their ability to take corners is an old Top Gear comparison of the E46 M3 and the B6 S4. The B6 S4 is heavier, slower in a straight line and has an overhung engine design (engine ahead of the front wheels), yet the Stig managed to whip it around the track in about a second less than it took him for the E46 M3. Drive it properly, and it will go around corners.

It doesn’t look much damaged

Anyway, never go on a track, especially wet, with a big boat

A4s aren’t particularly big cars, an A8 is where I’d draw the line. Perhaps some lower spec A6s too, but S and RS models would be grand I’d say.

On the outside maybe but there could be a lot of structural or suspension damage from the acceleration when it hit the wall
