An Audi Quattro Just Sold For A Ridiculous £72k

An Audi Quattro Just Sold For A Ridiculous £72k

While it’s undoubtedly a very, very good example, there’s nothing particularly compelling about this Audi ‘ur’ Quattro. It doesn’t have a famous former owner. It’s not an especially rare model. The mileage is low but not super low, at 32,233. And yet it’s just gone under the hammer via Classic Car Auctions (CCA) for a patently absurd £72,050.

It’s an auction record, and yet another sign that the classic car market isn’t done with its current bonkers streak. The final sum is also far beyond the £35,000 to £40,000 estimate originally given - nearly double the lower figure, in fact.

Like any auction of modern classics worth its salt, CCA’s September event also had a Porsche 911 fetching a silly sum. It was a 1988 Carrera Supersport, and it’s not hard to see why it proved tempting - it’s essentially a 3.2 Carrera given a 930 Turbo-like body, plus some of the Turbo’s chassis upgrades. It went for £99,000, £40,000 more than its lower estimate.

Whatever you do, don’t look up how much these cars would have gone for five or so years ago. It might make you cry…

It’s only a matter of years before we start seeing cars from 2000s like 350Zs and B7 RS4s fetching high 5 figures. Better buy now while we can afford them.

Shhh, let’s not pump up the prices yet.

You’re right. B5 RS4s have increased in value a lot in the last few years, maybe even doubled. B5s used to be half the price of B7s, now most B5s are fetching more than B7s! B7s are going up slowly as well.

Why would you buy new when depreciation is going to hit you in the face and then going to kick you while you’re already on the floor

It will be interesting to see how the value of petrol powered cars changes in the next 50 years as electric cars take over. I think the value of ordinary old petrol powered cars will drop through the floor. However, will future classic petrol cars (today’s sports and classic cars) be less valuable because fuel is more expensive and difficult to obtain, or even because human driven fossil fuel powered cars may be illegal to drive? Or will values increase as they are regarded as art, historical artefacts, or track toys?

Im sure they will rise up, but combustion wont be fully illegalized until waaaay into the future all the way to 2042, besides you just cant force someone to buy something he/she cant afford

Wait, £72,000 / $75,000 is an auction record, of what kind? If it’s just for one car that’s not exactly a record. Didn’t a Ferrari sell for around $20 million at an auction at one point?

Actually, a Ferrari 250 GTO once sold for $38,115,000 back in August 14, 2014 and THAT IS the current world record. So how is this one Audi a record holder? I haven’t read anyone trying to explain this yet.

It is an unusually high price for a standard UR Quattro.

An auction record for this variant of the Audi Quattro - not a world record

According to CTzens, the Miata should then have a six-figures price tag, if I follow your logic

Another example for the rising prices when it comes to Audi 5 cylinders….just interesting it’s a 20v and not an early 4 headlight model. But that’s the development for the Audis. Quattros/Sportquattros started to get expensive, then it got the RS2’s then the coupe quattros and then the 100/90s. Sadly time is running to get my hands on a typ44 lol
