Bugatti Will Launch A Second Model Line - And It'll Be An SUV

Reports are suggesting that declining four-door luxury car sales have changed Bugatti's direction - its second model line is now most likely to be an SUV

Bugatti is ready to expand with a second model line, according to reports – and it’s likely to be an SUV.

The French firm is said to have switched its plans away from a four-door ‘Galibier’ saloon based on a lengthened Chiron platform. Sales of such cars are still falling across the globe, in contrast to the continued SUV boom.

Quoting Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Autocar has said that the company is ready to build a second model, with Winkelmann adding that “we would look at every body style and regional demand, and not put our money into something that is fading.” That would make a four-door, like the one above rendered by X-Tomi Design, look unlikely.

SUVs are the growth models in pretty much all North American, European and Asian markets right now, so if profits are the primary concern then it wouldn’t make sense for a second Bugatti to be anything else. Whether it would use the Chiron’s chassis modified for more ground clearance or an entirely new one remains to be seen.

Winkelmann has prior when it comes to high-level SUV production. He was in charge of Lamborghini during the design and initial engineering of the Urus, which only recently came to market. A Bugatti SUV could feasibly use a development of the same underpinnings.

Modern SUVs are the stupidest thing that ever happened to the car industry. Theyre just lifted hatchbacks and wagons, using way more fuel than they need to and costing the consumer more than they actually need to pay. The job done by a modern SUV can be done much better by every other class of car. Wanna tow stuff: get a truck. Wanna haul you family of five around in style: get a wagon. Want something fast that can still seat more than two people: get a performance sedan. Wanna go offroad: get a Jeep Wrangler. On that note, yes the Jeep Wrangler is an SUV, but its the only acceptable one on the market as it hasnt separated itself from what its predessesors were meant to do: go offfroad. Of course, then the consumer, usually a bratty 20 something trust find girl, uses it to go shopping and that’s about it. These cars are useless and have no real puropse in the car industry, yet they still sell. Is modern humanity really that stupid? Well, a failed buisnessmen turned reality TV star is leader of the Free world and a good chunk of humanity believes the world is flat, so yes we are apparently.

Try to make sure that it’s even a little bit lower than most SUVs (i don’t mean the ground clearance)

there goes any respect i have for the company……

i mean, why?
for other companies like Lamboghini or Porsche it makes sense. Like you need the cash from those to help to fund other future models.
i agree, no problem

but why for Buggati!?
each car is ALREADY overpriced, and they only make like 1 SINGLE MODEL and its not like VW isnt funding them enough…….

goddamit

I agree. Its just a sad atempt to jump onto the suv craze. Eventhough i am a bugatti fan

It’s not overpriced, because they lose money on each car they make. That’s why they are probably making an SUV.

Bugatti getting funded by VW, just like… Porsche and Lamborghini? So it makes sense for one high-end brand, but not for another? The way I see it, an SUV would make sense for Bugatti, seeing as they are awd anyway and lavished with luxury.

What were the Veyron and Chiron? Not ‘sporty’ cars, but they had the weight and the plumpness of an SUV already, both in looks as in performance. I really consider them to be ‘lowered’ SUV’s (if that makes sense).

In any way, it’s all marketing.

This. I’d rather have them make a sedan.
