I sympathise with these taxi drivers as their livelihood is being damaged, but come on, the world moves forward and you’ve got to move with it. Uber offers a much better, more convenient service for less cash, of course people are going to use it.

The problem comes from the fact that traditional taxi drivers have to jump through legislative hoops to be able to legally pick up passengers, while Uber drivers are technically just offering people a lift, allowing them to skirt the law. I get why that’s frustrating, but these taxi drivers should be getting together and figuring out a way to make their own service more convenient for people.

It also comes down to marketing - it’s now ‘cool’ to get an Uber, whereas taxi drivers are just giving themselves this image that they’re bitter idiots who can’t get with the times. Every time they do something like this, all that happens is more people are pushed towards Uber.

In every industry the world moves forward and things change. There’s no point in fighting it; the people who embrace the new way and offer the best service win. These guys need to suck it up and be better.

Not only that. Uber is not popular here because we have bus that can take you anywhere and anytime since there is a bus every 30 minutes. Taxis are like “an emergency option” because their price are stupidly high. A couple of months ago I had to take one to the next town to pick up my car from the workshop and I had to pay the same i would pay of petrol in my car… If I go to the south of the island. Probably that’s the same that happens out there with uber.

“Every time they do something like this, all that happens is more people are pushed towards Uber.” Truer words have never been spoken.
I don’t use taxis but damn, I would definitely use uber just because this.
This is an international problem, these monkeys are flipping cars and hurting the uber drivers just because they cant get a better job. Boo Hoo.

My one question, why don’t cab drivers just quit and become uber drivers? If they are so mad. I can only assume that they’d make less and thats why. But there comes a point where being a cab driver makes you so little money, uber would make more sense or? Plus if everyone is an uber driver, then they can do what cab drivers have been doing, which is force the price up. Until the new thing comes along and charges less.

But do they think that things like this would make us chose taxis intead of Uber?

Here Uber is very popular in Toronto because the cabbies are not the best service providers, they’re often pissed off and angry, they turn down fares that “aren’t far enough” which is illegal, and was actually a contributing factor to a girls death this summer. The fact that Uber is cheaper is just an added benefit, but if they want me to pick their service over another then they better improve their customer service. Taxi’s in Toronto are also the most corrupt business you could come across, in fact they’re a big industry for the Mafia now.

Uber isn’t popular because it’s cooler, it’s popular because it’s just an overall better service. Improve, or die Taxi services, that’s all i have to say

we need to have in consideration that a taxi driver has more expenses than a uber driver..
At least were i live a taxi needs to have every tire including spare whit the same brand and model, they need occupants insurance and they need to pay a lot of different taxes…

Bit of an unfair comment, taxi drivers don’t get paid for doing nothing, they only get paid when they have a passenger in the car. Any time they are sitting waiting or driving around looking for a fare they aren’t getting paid. Some taxis do take the piss with their fares, but on the otherhand, their fares need to reflect the downtime as well.

I use Uber almost every weekend when I’m up in Leeds seeing my girlfriend at uni and I can safely say that they beat every other taxi service in the city. Not only is it easier to book using an app its just all around better from being able to check your route and traffic situation, you get an eta and estimated cost which I have always found accurate.

I’m all for Uber as it will hopefully promote competitiveness within the market although if the above videos are anything to go by we’ll just see normal taxi companies go out of business in big cities.

Yeah, I feel bad for the people who used to have a job that required almost no skills/education, and at the same time allowed them to charge people crapload of money for their services. Bummer.

Here in Norway taxi trips tend to cost ALOT, but when the new el-car laws came around and people started buying Teslas(or insert other EV) as taxis the fare are about 50% lower at some points :)

I get they’re ‘job’ is at stake, if you even want to call it a ‘job’, but..Intentionally blocking in an ambulance? Imagine if someone is in that thing. Sirens are on idiots, someone’s LIFE IS AT STAKE HERE. You could have just killed someone. That’s an obscenely new low, it makes most protesters look tame. I hope you get that into your thick skull you stupid tw*ts, because now you make all other cab drivers look like douches. When you think your job is so important its worth risking a life, well, then..

Feck you, you stupid, incompetent tw@tbags. I always thought my country wasn’t as friendly as everyone says it is, but now you’re just making us look bad.

and thats why i prefer to use the Bus, walk, use my bicycle or ride a car to work
we should just eliminate the taxis, almost nobody uses them. and if they do i bet they wont make more than 300 dollars per month

I love how they say that Uber drivers are flouting the law.
What, like how taxi drivers flout traffic laws?

In Bogotá is even worse. Taxi drivers are taking this troubles with their own hands and they have destroyed some cars and hit some people in order to reduce the demand of uber. In the following video we’ll see a red car (uber vehicle) with two people inside. The girl is an user and the man outside is a taxi driver telling them that uber is not legal https://youtu.be/0ybMfH1fXhs
