Camaro Z/28 Brakes Are So Strong, The Tyres Can't Grip The Rims

Chevrolet engineers realised that the Camaro's tyres were rotating almost all the way around the wheel over the course of a 'Ring lap

During development of the 2014 Camaro, Chevrolet's test drivers were noticing a vibration after driving it hard. The problem was narrowed down to the fact that the tyres were rotating around the rim under hard braking. No wonder, as the front discs are massive; 394x36mm front rotors are clamped by six-piston calipers, while the rears feature beefy 390x32mm rotors with four-piston calipers.

The engineers used 'media blasting', which involves blasting the rim with an abrasive material to create a rough surface to glue the tyre to. The glue adheres to the microscopic peaks and troughs created by the blasting, making it much more effective, and reducing slip on the wheel.
