Can A Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Beat A Dodge Challenger Hellcat In A Straight Line?

There's no doubt that the ZL1 will be the faster car on track, but what about in a drag race - can its lower weight figure make up the power deficit to the Hellcat?

The result of this drag race from Hennessey aside, which one of these horsepower-heavy slices of ‘Murica would you rather have? The 697bhp Hellcat is a more traditional point and squirt muscle car, whereas the lighter, 640bhp ZL1 pays a lot more attention to the handling department. Accelerates pretty quickly, too…

i love the hellcat so much but the only problem with it is the weight …..but the timeless looks makes up for it :)

You must be new here, this is a website directed towards people who are into cars. Often known as “petrol heads”.

One of the biggest fanbases for muscle cars, apart from USA, obviously, is Sweden, and most Mustangs were sold in Germany this year :)

Even though I think the Camaro is major league ugly with more blind spots than Stevie Wonder’s house, my preference would still be for it. The fact that it doesn’t lose the race is a factor as well. The Hellcat doesn’t look bad, in fact its a better classic implementation than the Chevy entry is. But the Chevy handles so well, and goes like a Meatloaf bat. I’m going to need a year or two with each of them to better determine which one I would prefer as a daily driver. But, from my armchair race car driver position right now, it’s the Chev.

Pathetic Chevy. Pathetic. At least the ZL1 can corner.

They pinned the stupid Manual ZL1 against the Hellcat, when GM just came out with a fantastic new 10 speed… The 10 speed should have been used to make this a legitimate test.

I wouldn’t call it fantastic.. considering how laggy and unresponsive it is. Sure the shift itself is probably great but the paddle reflexes suck on GMs automatics
