Civic Type R Will Be A 'Ring Smasher'

The new Honda Civic Type R will be a front-wheel drive Nürburgring hero when it goes on sale in 2015

Great news Type R fans. According to Honda CEO Takanobu Ito, the new Civic Type R will be the hottest to date, and one which aims to win the title as 'fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle on the Nürburgring race course’.

To you and me that equates to a sub-8.07min lap time, currently held by the ballsy 260bhp RenaultSport Megane (RS) Trophy special.

Developed for the European market using Honda's World Touring Car Championship witchcraft (its entering the WTCC as a works team this year), we’re expecting the new Civic Type R to run a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol unit with around 270bhp and a top speed of around 150mph.

2015 can’t come soon enough.
