Classifieds' Car Of The Day: Ford Focus With A V8 Heart

A Focus' delightful chassis deserves more power. How does 340bhp sound?

The Ford Focus changed the face of family motoring. Suddenly you could get a good-looking car that drove well, and even contained a chassis that was easy to hoon. The ST170 and RS models went some way to abating the needs of boy racers, but it wasn't enough for some people.

That's why we've ended up with stuff like this: a 5.0-litre, 340bhp V8 Focus. And it can be yours for a fairly reasonable $18,000.

The conversion was undertaken by specialists Kugel Komponents. There's front coilovers, a front sway bar, an electronic speedo and fuel gauge, Ford Racing tachometer, an external 'kill switch' and even an aluminium fuel cell in the boot.

The engine is a 5.0-litre V8, with an Edelbrock Air Gap intake manifold, ceramic coated headers and Crane MSD ignition and coil. The only hint, and it is the merest of hints, that this is not a standard Focus are the SVT wheels hiding SVT power disc brakes.

So if you live in Michigan, or don't mind a little road trip to pick up a brilliant sleeper, give this guy a call. It's had $27,500 put into the modifications, which were all carried out professionally, so for $18,000 it's quite a snip!
