Classifieds' Car Of The Day: Tempting Volkswagen Golf R32
The Volkswagen Golf is one of the least inspiring cars on the road. Their inoffensive styling and excellent build quality make them incredibly popular, so it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd if you own one.
That's where the R32 comes in. The 237bhp six-cylinder engine was directly descended from the old VR6, and was ripe for tuning. It had an intelligent four-wheel drive system and low suspension which gave it grip for days, and the heavy torque made it rapid off the line. Oh, and the twin-exit exhausts' beefy sound is accentuated here by a full Miltek cat-back exhaust.
The chunky styling put the GTI to shame, and the 18-inch alloys suit the mk4 perfectly - on this example they're chip free and wrapped in Toyo Proxes with good tread all round. The half-leather seats were pretty luxurious for a hot hatch, and in this example they appear to have been kept in fantastic condition. There's also climate control, cruise control and xenon headlights.
For a similar price you'll be lucky to find anything with so few miles, and with a full service history, this immaculately maintained R32 is a snip at £5895.
