We’ve seen a brilliant array of cars throughout the series, but it’s probably The Run, that showcases the most comprehensive car list in a Need for Speed game. You can get your hands on everything from classic muscle to JDM legends and European supercars.

2. Map: Need for Speed: Underground 2

Admit it, you know this place better than your own town. With a perfect mix of tight city streets, wide highways and twisty mountain stretches, you can roam around for hours in this open-world paradise. You can even challenge fellow tuners to a cheeky street race when you bump into them on the map.

3. Physics: Need for Speed: Shift 2

While the series was never renowned for its physics, Shift 2 struck a good balance between arcade and simulation. You could really feel the adjustments made to your car and had to focus hard to stay on the black stuff. Some guys from Poland even made a tyre mod to take the physics to a whole new level.

4. Graphics: Need For Speed: Rivals

With the incredible Frostbite 3 engine, Rivals delivers life-like image quality and mind-blowing special effects. The console versions are quite evenly matched and look even better than the PC game in certain cases. Who actually needs better graphics than this?

6. Atmosphere: Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed

Nothing can come close to the nostalgic and relaxed ambiance of Porsche Unleashed. With beautiful autumn forests and scenic mountain twisties, it secured a place in all of our hearts. Over the years this game has gone down as a Need for Speed classic.

7. Characters: Need for Speed: Most Wanted

With characters like Mia, Sergeant Cross and Razor, Most Wanted gave us a compelling story line and epic movie scenes as you progressed through the game. Cross even makes a return in Need for Speed Carbon with his modified Z06 Corvette.

It’d be silly to deny that we all get the chills when Riders on the Storm starts playing. With names like Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Rancid and Rob Zombie, the Underground series brought with it a soundtrack that we still listen to 10 years on.
