Of Course You Want A Lego Speed Champions Nissan GT-R Nismo

The expansion of the new, wider Speed Champions range of Lego products continues, with the latest set involving the mightiest R35 GT-R

Lego’s popular Speed Champions range has had something of a growth spurt. From now on the sets will be 25 per cent larger, measuring eight studs across rather than six, meaning they’re more detailed and less goofy looking.

We’ve already seen a couple of fabulous Lamborghini Speed Champions sets and liked what we saw, but this latest effort might just be even better. It’s a Nissan GT-R Nismo, and it looks smashing.

It’s made from 298 parts and includes all the key details - the iconic GT-R tail lights, a quad exhaust system, a big rear wing and a sizeable front splitter are present and correct. That last item will no doubt be the first casualty in any skirting board-related crashes.

Speaking about Nissan becoming the first Japanese car manufacturer to team up with Lego, Nissan vice president Asako Hoshino said: “Many of our Nissan customers can trace their automotive passion back to when they built LEGO cars as children. With this partnership, everyone can be a ‘takumi’ – the specialized craftsmen that build the GT-R.”

If you were hoping to add this to your Christmas list, you might be disappointed to learn that - like the Lamborghini sets mentioned earlier on - the Speed Champions GT-R won’t be here until January 2020. Boo.

We don’t know how much it’ll cost yet, but with the bump in size, we can expect a small increase on the typical £13 price of the existing Speed Champions products.
