The D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition Is Bonkers Even By Donkervoort Standards
If the standard D8 GTO is supposed to be a Caterham Seven turned up to 11, then this Bilster Berg edition must rip the dial off and do a burnout on it. This bonkers road legal race car has been built to celebrate the fact Donkervoort has taken the production car record at Bilster Berg, a track in Germany.
Performance-wise, it’s all as you were with the original version. That means it packs the same Audi-sourced 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine you’ll find in the RS3 and TT RS. It’s good for 380bhp, spinning the rear wheels to 60mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds.
So what’s different? The aesthetic upgrades are obvious, so let’s start with the oily bits you can’t see: there’s a race-spec clutch and a lighter flywheel, plus a bunch of angry track-focused upgrades. The track mods include re-tuned suspension, new anti-roll bars and a beefy roll cage. The tyres are now semi-slicks.
It’s also a little bit lighter - 10kg, to be exact - thanks to weight shaving carbonfibre bits, most obvious on the grille, giving the D8 a rather more aggressive face. The seats are also carbonfibre.
With just 14 to be made, owners of this mad cousin of the Caterham Seven will be in a super-exclusive club. And mighty rich, too. You’re looking at €194,000 (£150k, $250k) for a rather alternative, no-compromise road-legal racer. You’re a CT hero if you buy one.
