The Daddy Of Online Car Configurators

Say goodbye to hours of fatuous browsing. A bunch of Russians have created an idyllic haven for bored petrolheads...

We love online car configurators here at CT. Whether you're idly specifying the perfect Ferrari 458, abusing Rolls Royce's limitless colour pallet or seeing by just how much you can inflate the price of a Mini, hours of online motoring-based fun are only ever a few clicks away.

However, configurators do have their limitations. Once you've selected every option, tried out every colour and alloy combination and trimmed the interior in the carmaker's softest, most expensive leather, all you've left to do is marvel at the price, or long for your lottery numbers to come up. Furthermore, not all manufacturers have configurators, and many of those who do obviously gave the job of programming them to inebriated toddlers.

The scope for creating something truly hideous - which is by far the most entertaining thing to do with these configurators - is hamstrung by manufacturer-sanctioned options and colour choices.

Weirdly - the answer to our woes comes from Russia. Evidently on a break from crashing into things and distilling cheap vodka, they've come up with the mother of all car configurators, in glorious 3D and free from the clutches of any one carmaker. With hundreds of models to choose between - from Ladas to Peterbilt trucks via Bentleys and BMWs - and an equally large number of aftermarket alloys, bumpers and spoilers, you'll lose hours to it.

Take this standard Hummer H2 - one of the most tastelessly modified cars around. Want to get in on the action? Add some 30in spinners, a set of crude, bulky bumpers et voila, marvel at its vomit-inducing ugliness.

Fancy something a tad more humble? How about the Soviet's favourite - a Lada. I ruined one in five minutes flat.

Bigger even than a Hummer is an American icon - the Peterbilt truck. I'll take mine in matte grey with the world's largest spoiler.

You've seen some of our best (or worst) efforts throughout this post, and now it's your turn. Share your least tasteful designs with us on Facebook and Twitter.
