Last week, you voted for your perfect number of engine cylinders. Here are the results

Modern-day car engines range from between two and 16 cylinders. And because you lot are a bunch of power fiends and lovers of ultimate engine noise, there could only be one winner.

You voted, and with a 31 per cent majority, it was the mighty eight-cylinder engine, which won by quite a margin. Let's remind ourselves what a sweet eight sounds like:

Here's what we said about the 'eight last week:

Do you like the race-car howl of a flat-plane crank Ferrari? Or the air-ripping growl of a cross-plane lump of American V8 iron? Don't even get us started on some of AMG's recent V8s. And how about Volkswagen's W-shaped eight?

The Winners And Losers

Unsurprisingly, 10-cylinder engines came in at number two with 22 per cent of your love, followed by six-pots (17 per cent), 12 cylinders (11 per cent) and the fruity five, which accounted for eight per cent of your votes.

16, 2, 4 and 3 cylinder units scored 6, 3, 3, and 0 per cent respectively, which may surprise you. I think what this shows is that you love a smooth-sounding motor, with heady performance. Stuff the MPG! As for the mighty 16? That's just too OTT, even for you. And us...
