Dodge has released a teaser image of its Challenger SRT Demon, revealing a wide body and massive tyres

The trickle of information regarding the new Challenger SRT Demon continues to gently flow, with the latest nugget of info being a particularly juicy one.

It’s all about tyres. Really, really fat tyres. As in 315 width boots, at the front and at the rear. Yes, you read that correctly.

This has led to some speculation about the Demon going all-wheel drive, but we’d be surprised if Dodge managed to cut that 90kg weight it told us about recently and add all the required gubbins for powering the front wheels. What the hilariously large front tyre size does show us though - plus the teaser pic having a bit of a drag racing background - is that the Demon is about straight line heroics and little else.

They’re some rather special boots too. They’re Nitto NT05Rs, developed especially for the Demon. They’re also proper drag radials, making the Demon the first ever production car to wear such a tyre. Oh, and the sidewalls have neat little Demon logos, which is nice.

The new tyres are wrapped around 18 x 11-inch wheels, and the arches have been flared to suit. As a result, the Demon is 3.5 inches wider than a standard Challenger, giving the car one hell of a rear profile.

It’s expected to be revealed at the New York Auto Show this April.

Let’s not forget that the Chevvy Camano Z28 (or how it’s called) has 305s and the Shelby GT500 315s, with the exception that those will corner and not light up the tires anyway

When I would build cars up on Gran Turismo and Widen the tires, I would say “It’s got tires like a Lamborghini!”
And my dad would laugh.
Good times.

Wide tires front and rear has gotta be AWD. Why put huge tires on unpowered wheels? Makes sense for track but not drag racing. Unless the car comes with skinnies to swap out the fronts and it just means the car comes with two sets of rears.

Not necessarily, the gt350 has 315 front and rear and the z28 has 305 all around.
