Dodge Sold Two Brand-New Vipers Last Year
You’d be forgiven for thinking the well of new Dodge Vipers had well and truly dried up, considering the last one was built in 2017. However, it turns out some were still sitting around waiting for new homes, with two newly registered examples finding homes in the US last year.
Stellantis has published a breakdown of all of its 2024 US sales, shouting to the hills about increases in sales of the Dodge Durango, Chrysler Pacifica and Jeep Wrangler. All good and well, but it’s notable that by selling two Vipers, the V10 sports car’s figures doubled compared with 2022 when just one example was registered. Interestingly, both units were sold in Q4 last year - someone potentially had a very fun Christmas.
The Viper wasn’t even Stellantis’ least-sold sports car last year. A sole example of the Alfa Romeo 4C found a home, matching one sold in 2022. It went out of production in 2020.
With 75,920 Dodge Chargers and 44,960 Challengers sold, it’s not all doom and gloom for Stellantis’ more interesting cars even if both of those are now consigned to the history books.
By comparison, a whopping 16 new Fiat 500s (not the new electric one, mind you) flew from dealer lots, decimating the 500L’s tally of…seven. Besting both of those - somehow - was the Fiat 124 Spider, with 28 sold.
The Jeep Patriot which, like the Viper, left production in 2017 saw a drop of 75 per cent to one sold in 2023 compared with 2022 while two Chrysler Town & Country were registered.
It’s not just Stellantis that’s shifting tiny volumes of extinct cars still sitting around on dealer forecourts. Acura sold five brand-new NSXs in 2023, with the last of the hybrid sports car built in 2022.
