The Ducati SuperSport Is A Sports Bike For People Who Don't Want A Sports Bike
We don’t often talk about bikes on Car Throttle, but then Ducati doesn’t often bring out a whole new series of bikes. That’s exactly what the Italian firm has done at the Intermot bike show in Cologne, with this: the SuperSport.
It’s a name Ducati has used before, but this time around, it’s adorning something a little different. It’s a bike that looks like a superbike or supersports machine, yet is actually a much more laid-back affair.
Purists might turn their noses up at such a thing, but it makes sense: there are a great deal of buyers out there that want something that looks mean and sporty, but don’t want the associated mad power outputs and spine-ruining riding position.
The SuperSport offers a much more sensible but still potent 111bhp from its ‘Testastretta’ 937cc V-twin, a far more relaxed riding position and a full complement of safety-geared electronics like ABS and traction control.
If you want to make things a little more hardcore you can spec Öhlins suspension, a quickshifter and a rear seat cover, all of which come as standard on the S version.
Want one? You’re looking at £10,995 for the SuperSport, and £12,295 for the SuperSport S. Both will go on sale March next year.

Could that be done to cars as well?
Waiting for Ariel to make a SuperSport Ariel Atom with 1.6 diesel, aircon, heated seats, comfy suspension and doors
You want Ariel to make a Focus???
I think they’d have to start out a special operation division… the ASO :P
lol “and doors”

111bhp..
you do realize, bikes usually have around 200kg? so the power/weight ratio is fairly high
Well it can smoke posches, M3, Rs4, big mustangs etc If you are talking about acceleration. It’s really enough :)
FYI, my 78bhp has a better acceleration than a 370bhp Porsche 911 carrera (3,9s against 4,6)
It is actually, on the 0-60 only, as fast as a 911 R
Just saying
something for first-timer or newcomer?
The only sensible comment so far!
That is way to expensive for that IMO. I would never buy a nor would I recommend a $14,000 bike to a beginner.
111 horsepower for first bike is suicide unless you’ve ridden before. Don’t quote me on this because my only experience in riding is around a parking lot in my stepdad’s Suzuki 250, and even that felt plenty quick enough. You have to remember that bikes weigh a lot less than cars do, so a 111 horsepower bike is quick enough to keep up with let’s say an E46 M3.
But I’m an idiot with a deathwish, so I say go for it.
You dont need so much power as a newcomer. Currently I have my A2 motorcycle license (because im only 18) which is restricted to 48hp. Doesnt sound like much but a 48hp bike is good for a 0-62mph time of just under 5secs and I did a tour in the Alps and with all those twisty corners and many hairpins you’ll realize that even 48hp is more than enough as a beginner
Wouldn’t say so, it could be for those people, that find their 200bhp bikes too powerful, this thing will still be agile and powerful enough to outperform 90% of cars found on european roads
What about a sports bike for people who don’t like bikes?
Wait. No… Ariel already makes those.
And Caterham.
Or a KTM X-Bow
If you think about it, it might be the perfect commuter bike. Narrow bars (better than a tourer or adv), some weather protection (better than a naked) and a somewhat docile behaviour (better than a Pure sportsbike)
Is this air-cooled like the old SuperSport?
Water
But 111bhp is still a big horsepower for bike. It’s even faster than my parent’s suzuki
So it’s a Ninja 300 made by Ducati?
It’s three time a Ninja…
In which universe does Ninja 300 have 111bhp? Do tell me
