Freed from the usual design constraints that go along with producing a scaleable production-spec paint scheme, race teams are free to go wild with their liveries; one of our favourites being the classic blue, white and red colours of Tyco BMW. So when we heard that BMW would be producing a replica of the Northern Ireland-based team’s 2016 race bikes, we got pretty excited.

Well, excited and apprehensive. You see, ‘racing reps’ are often nothing more than a glorified marketing ploy; a tactic to sell off old stock. But BMW has confirmed that these bikes will be different. Only 75 examples will be produced, with each of them receiving more than £3000 of BMW High Performance parts. This includes, HP rear sets, forged wheels, an HP clutch and brake levers, and a road-legal Akrapovic Sports exhaust. The bikes will also feature factory-fit options such as Dynamic Damping Control, Dynamic Traction Control and Gear Shift Assist Pro. As a result, these bikes will be the highest-specification S1000RRs on sale.

We managed to get a close look at a production-ready example at the recent MCN Motorcycle show, and we can confirm that the quality of the components are absolutely stunning. Granted, the £21,240 asking price is a little steep, but if Ian Hutchinson manages to win the 2016 Senior TT, these bikes may well become something of a collector’s item. If you have the money, get your order in now!

Talk about replica though, how do you guys think about taking a new 2017 GSX-R1000 ( it’s coming ) and swap an XR-69 body and fairing on it ?
