Forget The NSX: This Turbocharged S2000 Gives You Huge Honda Thrills For A Tenth Of The Price

Let's face it: the NSX is probably a bit too expensive for now. But as the new supercar meets the media, we've delved into the classifieds and found a turbocharged Honda that's much more affordable!

The new Honda NSX looks stunning. It’s a glorious left-field alternative to the mighty mainstream dominated by the Italians and Germans. But while it is 565bhp worth of turbocharged hybrid awesomeness, it comes with a hefty £137,950 price tag even before you start stuffing it with options.

So while the new supercar Jon Snow to Ferrari’s Mother of Dragons is launched to the media in Portugal, we’ve dug into the classifieds to find a fast Honda that’s much more affordable. Almost exactly 90 per cent more affordable, actually.

This tempting-looking S2000 has been turbocharged and tuned with parts from the likes of Greddy, Bosch, HKS and Rota. Looking at its spec list is like parts shopping in Need for Speed. Then there’s the subtly vented bonnet and single-exit three-inch exhaust, which hint at proper performance.

It should deliver exactly that, with the seller quoting a dyno-proven 311bhp and 197lb ft for a power-to-weight ratio of around 240bhp per tonne, assuming a slightly raised kerb weight of 1300kg or so. The performance will be down on the NSX, sure, but it’s plenty for the real world unless you’re missing a few screws upstairs.

There’s lots of paperwork and receipts to go with the car, including a full photo history of the turbo conversion, but just as importantly the engine bay looks immaculate – the sign of a well-loved car. That said, it’s no guarantee that it hasn’t been thrashed to within an inch of its freshly-blown life at shows or rallies since completion.

Reassuringly, the seller says the turbo will come with a year’s warranty, and there are only 45,700 miles on the car’s clock. The MOT history should confirm how genuine that is.

It’s riding on lightweight Rota wheels with sticky Toyo R888 tyres in chunky 225- and 255-section widths; OEM-spec at the front but 10mm wider than AP2 standard at the rear. There’s a second set of 18-inch Team Dynamics wheels for an extra cost, says the seller.

There’s a huge eBay advert to read through with lots of detail. The listed price is £13,750 but the seller is open to offers. The eBay listing ends on Thursday!

That’s the problem, for companies, when they build a car that is so awesome that their next new cars won’t sell
