Get A Load Of Mitsubishi's 603bhp Electric Pikes Peak Racer
If you’re sad that the mad Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Evolution doesn’t exist outside of the virtual world of Gran Turismo 6, here’s something a little more tangible from the Japanese manufacturer. It’s called the MiEV Evolution III and is set to take on the Electric Modified Division of the famous Pikes Peak Hillclimb at the end of June.
As the name suggestions, it’s a progression of the Evolution II version (below) that Mitsubishi ran in the competition last year. It has the same powertrain, which features an electric motor in each wheel for a total output of 603bhp; this compares to 536bhp in last year’s car.
For the 2014 car, Mitsubishi has tweaked the rear wing, added larger tyres, installed a new carbonfibre cowl and fiddled with the Super All Wheel Control system to give better traction. Power to the motors comes from a 50kWh battery.
Mitsubishi will run two of these cars in the 2014 event, piloted by Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy.
