The Gloriously Analogue SCG 004S Is A Left-Field Swipe At Ferrari And McLaren
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, the company that was this year making noises about challenging for the all-time all-car Nurburgring lap record, is ramping up its production volumes so customers can go racing.
The company has just been granted low-volume manufacturer status by the American National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), which means it can build up to 325 cars per year without having to worry about all the usual federal regulations, which cost a fortune to meet.
With that in the bag, Glickenhaus has set its sights on GTE, GTLM and GT3 racing series across the world with this, the mid-engined SCG 004S. The ‘S’ signifies that it’s meant for the road. It’s the homologation special developed out of a still-secret racecar variant.
Its 5.0-litre 650bhp twin-turbo V8 serves a meaty 531lb ft of torque to the rear wheels via a gated six-speed manual gearbox – or a paddle-operated automated manual, which would be a shame.
We love how analogue this thing seems. It’s just the driver, a big V8 and some fat rear tyres. We’d bet that it’d be way slower than a McLaren 720S or Ferrari 488 GTB on a circuit, but we also bet it’d be even more fun.
Inside the 004S it’s a three-seat affair with two chairs either side of and slightly behind the driver, a la McLaren F1. The driver therefore sits dead-centre, which is ideal for racing.
It’s mostly carbonfibre, natch, with weight said to be sub-1200kg dry. Expect it to be fast thanks to pretty mean aerodynamics including a long, long tail, integrated rear wing and huge diffuser.
Prices start at $400,000 for the US-built machine, which is a lot cheaper than the $2 million the company’s Italian-developed 003 model cost.

I see a mix of the Maseratti MC12, a McLaren F1, and a 2017 Ford GT
Looks like a sports car version of the pope-mobile
Way slower than a 488 or 720 around a circuit?
I’ll be happy to take the other side of that bet.
Our 003 did the Ring in 6:33.
Our 004 will be very close to that.
Like our 003 it will compete at the 2019 N24.
Best
I was like: “Hey! That’s the Brand from Assetto Corsa”
Rather die then buy
Looks kinda like if a Ford GT was made for purists
See this is a car! Simple powerful V8 and a manual gearbox. No unnecessary electronics, just how i like it.
That thing looks better I’d say
This is what happens when a manufacturer reads comments on carposts.
