This Guy Had His Model X Order Cancelled After An Online Rant

These days, it’s pretty easy to have a rant online and have your voice heard. However, it backfired for Stewart Alsop. He’d placed a $5000 deposit on a Model X, but wasn’t happy about the launch event, which had started late, had apparently focused too much on safety, and didn’t provide him with the opportunity to drive the car he’d been expecting.

He posted a lengthy tirade about the event titled ‘Dear @ElonMusk: You should be ashamed of yourself’- and it seems to have hit its target audience. According to an update post from Alsop called ‘Banned By Tesla’, Tesla CEO Elon Musk rang him up personally to cancel his order:

“I heard from our phone conversation that you feel that my post, “Dear @ElonMusk: You should be ashamed of yourself”, was a personal attack on you. I also hear that you are not comfortable having me own a Tesla car and have cancelled my order for a Tesla Model X.”

Musk even appeared to reference the affair on Twitter yesterday.

Whether or not you agree with Alsop’s rantings - which do have a whiff of first world problems about them - “denying service” to him does seem a little like unnecessary power tripping. Alsop appears to be able to see the funny side of it at least, referencing one of Musk’s other ventures: “I guess this means I probably won’t be allowed to buy a SpaceX Dragon, either.”

I know this is the unpopular opinion but Musk should apologize to him, a companies duty is to provide its costumers with what they want, and they failed to do that, instead of getting angry at the consumer, he should have apologized and took it as constructive criticism, trust me, I hate rude people just as much as the next guy but writing a moral code for your consumers isn’t right.

This doesn’t even tell nearly the detail of how it went. Musk shows up 2 hours late to the event, doesn’t apologise at all. The event goes on as planned but then the guy realizes that he is 1314th or something like that in line to drive a Model X. And this event was for people who already put money down to own one.

Tesla overbooked the event, started it way later than was expected by the audience, and he would’ve been there until 1am or more waiting to drive a Model X about 100ft before being told to get out.

It’s unprofessional for a company to do that and this was a genuine criticism of how the event was handled. Not of the Model X. Yet Elon Musk takes it personally and bans him from owning one.

It’s an overreaction to criticism and Musk is unwilling to deal with it so he throws a temper tantrum.

I totally agree. “ He’d placed a $5000 deposit on a Model X, but wasn’t happy about the launch event, which had started late, had apparently focused too much on safety, and didn’t provide him with the opportunity to drive the car he’d been expecting.”

So the event started late, he didn’t get the chance to drive a car that he already paid the deposit on.

Why is that being rude? It’s just Elon Musk being an idiot that takes it too personal.

Well, Alsop can get a good little Prius now. He shouldn’t be complaining at all. Musk has been making great strides the past few years to stimulate the EV market. Alsop must’ve been in desperate need of a car then to be that rude.

One of the seemingly few who disagree with this. Not only is it extremely unprofessional, but personally to me it shows what I see as the unfortunate truth; that to buy a Tesla you have to butt crawl the company it seems. You should not cancel a customer’s order just because they have a negative opinion of your company or product. This creates a very false image for the company I think, as only the good publicity gets through. I’m glad this has come to light because it only confirms my suspicions, that Tesla is an extremely elitist company that surpresses bad publicity.

I think it’s pretty fair, complaining about something you haven’t tried is what’s not fair.

As a company. I’ve somehow harbored seething hate for Tesla. This post didn’t even reference the actual rant and why this guy was pissed at the company. Please, let us see both sides of the story so we can make our own judgements based on that fact.
