This Jaguar XJR-12's Hill Climb Run Is Astonishing To Watch

The winning run at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed involves serious commitment and lots of lovely V12 noise

As we discussed recently, it’s awesome to see irreplaceable classic cars lobbed up the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s hill climb, despite the risks. And if that involves a V12-powered Group C racing car, we’re especially interested.

With that in mind, we’re happy to spend a few minutes watching Justin Law - of XJ220 specialists Don Law Racing - wrestle a Jaguar XJR-12D up the tight, tricky course to bag the fastest time of this year’s festival.

Last year didn’t go so well for Law and this particular XJR, with the IMSA GTP machine shedding a wheel near the top of the course. He’s had plenty of prior success here to offset that hiccup though - thanks to his 2017 success, he now occupies four slots of the top 10 leaderboard.

Nick Heidfeld still holds the fastest run with a 41.6sec effort, set in 1999 aboard a McLaren MP4/13 - before F1 cars were banned from setting times.

I never knew that! Why and when were F1 cars banned from the shoot-out?

They were banned cause it would be too dangerous. (Just like bikes) they can still go up the hill and do all sorts of tire slaying. They just arent allound to do a timed run. When heidfeld did the run the organizers said they shoulnd’t have allowed it in the first place. The really good thing is that all sorts of cars can battle ot out instead of an f1 cat winning all the time. For example the top contenders this year were this group c racer. A timeattack subaru, a polish gt3 racecar and penske indycar.

I think the Bugatti Type 35B run was far more impressive when you consider the car is 90 years old!
