Learner Driver Passes Driving Test Despite Killing A Deer

Learner Driver Passes Driving Test Despite Killing A Deer

I think we can all agree that the driving test is a pretty nerve-wracking experience. Even if you’re fully prepared, a pass isn’t guaranteed; even F1 superstar Jenson Button failed first time. Ultimately, anything can happen, so the most important thing is to stay calm, as demonstrated by learner driver Tom Lo when he took his test last week in rural Fingringhoe (stop sniggering at the back).

Half-way through his assessment a deer decided to test Tom’s emergency braking technique, jumping directly in front of his car. Travelling at 40mph, there was no time to avoid it, and he struck the deer head on, killing it instantly. Thankfully, Tom and his passenger got away without any injuries, and the car only suffered a cracked number plate.

Somewhat surprisingly, Tom’s driving instructor Robert Jezierski decided to carry on with the lesson regardless. Tom said:

“The driving examiner checked the car and then we went on with the exam. It was something I was not expecting so I was a bit shaken up, but luckily I wasn’t too shaken up to continue. I got this test as a cancellation, the next one was 15 June, so it was quite important to pass it before my exams.”

Thankfully running down wildlife isn’t considered to be an instant fail, so Tom passed with just two minors. This got us thinking; have any CTzens experienced equally eventful driving tests? Let us know in the comments below!

I failed 4 times before I finally got my licence:

1) Stopped with the front of the car in a cycle zone at traffic lights. No cyclists there, but still an instant fail

2) Forgot to indicate twice - 2 minors, which added up to a major which is a fail.

3) Did not stop for someone waiting to cross at a zebra crossing. Instant fail

4) During a parking maneuver, I finished over the near side lane marker. 1 minor. I then forgot to check blind spot when pulling away. Instant fail

Oddly enough, on my fifth attempt, I passed without a single minor. In hindsight, I probably needed more lessons but I count myself unlucky…

Moral of story - don’t give up!

during my test, a storm came through after 2 mins. The whole town was flooded and a good foot under water but i went on with the test regardless. I didnt go over 20 mph the whole time. Passed with no minors. WIN

In my drivers test I did a few minor things like not check my side mirrors out stop behind the line and then creep up but the worst thing I did was change lanes in the middle of an interception and my dad had told me not to do that a few days ago or it could be an instant fail. when I did it I kept my cool and drive back to the DMV and surprisingly she let me pass, even my dad couldn’t believe I had passed it after I did that

I had the back wheel of the instructor’s mazda 2s go over the curb when going around a very tight corner, but somehow I still passed

Is there someone in the trunk of that car?

I passed the first time, though the guy was out to get me, changing his mind on where to go and messing around with his seat the whole time (he was basically in the rear footwell) We reckon it was down to an awful joke (world class in my eyes) that I made at the start that made him want to fail me.
So your man comes in and says “ is Mr Killingworth here”
“yes I’m here”
“have you got a first name? I’ve only got Mr Killingworth written down on my records” he says,
So we fill out all the forms hand over my licence, while my instructor pleads with me not to get racey on test.
Going outside the center he asks me “so what should I call you? Mike or Michael?”
I said “Mr is fine thanks”

And thats how I nearly failed my driving test in three words

At the end of the day if he reacted appropriately why shouldn’t he pass?

Not personal, and not a driving test, bu one of my driving instructors had a story about how a deer ran into the side of one of their learner-cars during an evening run with one of their students.
