Someone's just bought a Tesla using the internet's new currency, let's hope it doesn't crash and burn

For what's thought to be the first time ever, a car has been bought using online currency Bitcoin. Not only that, it was a Tesla Model S, meaning someone has bought an electric car, with electric money. Hopefully it won't catch fire like a few Teslas have recently due to crash damage...

Lamborghini Newport Beach, who are based in California, sold the lightly-used Tesla, saying: 'we are fully capable of accepting Bitcoin as payment for vehicles. We are excited to be opening the door to this new currency.'

Bitcoins were introduced in 2009, and have been increasing in value. Early adopters who paid very little for vast quantities of Bitcoins are now finding their hauls are worth a massive amount. This Californian dealership is the latest in a long line of companies to start accepting the burgeoning digital currency, so who knows, before too long you too might be buying a car this way...
