Lewis Hamilton Got Into Trouble With NZ Cops After Snapchatting On His Harley

Lewis Hamilton got into trouble during a recent trip to New Zealand and was investigated by police after posting a series of Snapchat videos while riding a Harley Davidson in the country.

The three-time F1 world champion recently visited Auckland before jetting off to Melbourne in Australia for this weekend’s 2016 season opener, as the sport returns to action following the winter break and pre-season testing.

Hamilton posted a number of Snapchat clips on the app, introducing the motorcycles before filming himself as he merged onto a motorway.

It is illegal in New Zealand to drive a vehicle while on your mobile phone and this has been the case since 2009. Local police investigated the videos of Hamilton riding the motorbike but ended up letting him off.

A police spokesperson is quoted by various media outlets saying:

“Auckland City Police will be taking no further action in relation to recent media publicity about Lewis Hamilton and his motorcycle journey in Auckland. The video footage available does not provide us with sufficient enough evidence that an offence has occurred. We would like to reiterate our earlier statements that police take the issue of mobile phone use whilst driving or riding very seriously, it is a significant distraction and a major risk to all road users.”

Hamilton’s been involved in a few driving-related incidents on the road. He was fined £300 for doing burnouts in 2010, was fined and had his driving license suspended in France in 2007 for speeding, and crashed his £1.5m Pagani Zonda into several stationary cars last year in Monaco. He blamed it on “heavy partying”.

Just cause he can drive an open wheel clearly he can’t drive a normal car or bike.

He can still ride a bike, he just happened to be doing something irresponsible while doing so.

Seeing as 95% of all drivers have sped before, he just happened to get caught. And the reports in Monaco were mostly exaggerated as he only bumped into one car. People just seem to knock him for his lifestyle when in fact he’s just an ordinary very rich young man. Why is it that people want all F1 drivers to be so boring and restrained. Let the guy live, everyone makes mistakes.

How could you race F1 cars then ride a boring Harley. Should have rode a sport bike! It’s way more fun anyways.

Why is it wrong of him to ride a Harley? If he enjoys cruising a Harley instead of crotch rocket let him do it. Just because he drives an F1 car for a living doesn’t mean he enjoys riding crotch rockets.

Dresses like a clown, complains that he isn’t let into establishments with dress code, behaves like a douche, sets this grand example of “Im famous so I can do anything”, and this is the kind of characters F1 produces? The whole “not provide us with sufficient enough evidence that an offence has occurred” is a joke in itself.

I mean, wasn’t he pretty much caught red-handed?

He must be like the James Hunt of our time. Lol

About the dressing, what is he supposed to dress like then? He was GQ man of the year which is pretty big in itself. This is exactly what he complains about, people want to control him and how he should live his life. Imagine having thousands of people constantly trying to control YOUR life?

two things…

one: police should absolutely have made an example of him instead of letting him off

two: as an F1 driver you would expect LH to have some concept of what proper safety attire for motorcyclist is. Never mind the fact that his entire lifelyhood depends on his physical condition (which is why im surprised MB lets him ride a motorbike at all)

Then again, after his incredibly insensitive comments on the halo head protection concept maybe we shouldnt be so surprised.

why do people care so much about having proper safety attire while riding if your going out for a relaxing ride? it is extremely uncomfortable and a pain in a$$ to where full gear every time. is it safe? yes, it is but is it safe to drive a car with a full suit and helmet on? also yes, but who honestly is going to safe 100% of time? people need to be honest and stop badgering people for riding in normal clothes. it’s an individual’s choice
