Maserati Won't Make Any Sports Cars For Two Or Three Years
Think Maserati, and you’ll probably have some sort of pretty coupe in mind. The sort of thing that spits a jolly tuneful song out of its exhaust pipes, like the Gran Turismo MC Stradale perhaps. However, cars like that are about to disappear from Maserati’s range, albeit temporarily.
Car magazine reports that with Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio due to end in 2017 and replacements not coming until 2019 at the earliest, Maserati’s range is going to consist of only saloons and SUVs for at least two years, maybe longer.
Granted, it’s cars like the Ghibli saloon and new Levante SUV - particularly in diesel form - that are the big sellers for Maserati now, but a range lacking in sports/GT cars perhaps isn’t the best image for the Italian company.
Speaking to Car, Maserati’s Europe director Giulio Pastore said: “We have to have sports cars in our range and we would like to keep two models again.” So at least replacements for both still seem to be happening.
But what about the Alfieri, ‘confirmed‘ some two and a half years ago? The last word from Maserati officials is that it’s still on the agenda, although no one’s sure when a possible production version might arrive. Cross your fingers hard, folks…

What cars will Wall Street bankers buy now?!?!?!?!?
Its all the fault of people who buy diesel SUVs instead of proper cars
Petrol heads reacting to the news like
What a way to destroy an incredible company
I hope Maserati doesn’t go down the same route as Lancia! 😱😱 gosh the thought of that is just…..
Maserati make the best sounding cars. Period.
I could argue that Jaguar-Land Rover does.
They are too focused on making money with diesel engines and suvs rather than building sport car with passion at any cost
Oh come on
Thaaaannks Maserati… Thaaanks…
For now let’s just pray that they are planning a perfect GT coupe
